The Cotswold getaway- time to leave the best friend behind!

Anyone who has ever visited London, knows how busy this city can get…

Busy Summer RT

And if you live and work in London, you’re basically a hamster in a wheel, stuck in that everyday routine and fast-paced lifestyle.

If you recognized that hamster, you might also recognize those everyday commutes in fully packed tubes (metro) where you end up feeling like an oily sardine that is tightly pushed against its fellow companions…

Having to ‘enjoy’ the journey home with someone else’s smelly armpit a few centimeters off my nose is definitely not something I signed up for when deciding to live in London, but this too, is part of the glamorous big city life. Or the loud sirens of police and ambulance cars that make your ears want to find their own feet and take off to a quieter place…

Quite often we get so carried away with work commitments that we stop noticing the world around us…things such as the first flowers in the park, rainbows in the sky, singing of the small birds, the gradual change of the seasons…racing around with heads fixed on the ground (or phone screens…) and minds filled with work related thoughts, we end up missing out on enjoying what Mother Nature has got to offer us.ย

This is why I try to get away from the city as often as possible.ย  If my holiday is not long enough to book a flight to explore a different country or visit my family in Estonia, I take a nice road trip out of the capital.

In my opinion, the British countryside is very underrated. All you hear are the talks about the rainy weather but let’s be honest, it rains everywhere! There are so many beautiful places across the UK that the locals should visit before spending hours on, desperately trying to find cheap city breaks in Europe.

I spent my Easter weekend in the Cotswolds which is a cute area in south central England, about 2-hour drive away from London.ย  Key words for this place are hills, fields and sheep ๐Ÿ˜€ .ย

When in London, I wake up to the sound of an early morning traffic, trains and planes, then in the countryside, I wake up to the sound of baaing sheep and little lambs looking for their mama ”Baa-baaa!”.

PS! I sleep like a little lamb myself when I’m there ๐Ÿ˜€ .

Things to do in the countryside:

  1. Enjoy nature walks! Jump over paddles, sing and do silly stuff that you wouldn’t do in the city, express yourself and release your inner crazy ๐Ÿ˜€ !
  2. ย Drive through cute small villages.
  3. Drink fresh coffee at local coffee stores.
  4. Visit local shops and bakeries.
  5. Visit local food and veggie markets- all organic food!
  6. Read books and RELAX!!!

Also, the drinking water and free-range meat and dairy products in the countryside taste amazing!!!! I was very tempted to eat butter on its own- it reminded me of my childhood when we had cows and my mom was making butter and cottage cheese at home.

The first day of the mini holiday was rainy and due to bad traffic, it took us over 4 hours to get there. I cannot complain though, in good company, even the longest car journeys wheeze by in no time :D.

So on Day 1 we just relaxed, had a lovely dinner, played pool and watched movies.

I was so excited to hop into the wellies the next morning and head out for a lovely walk in the fields and forests. There is no better mood changer than fresh air! ๐Ÿ™‚

The best part about the countryside here in the UK is that there is no proper phone reception. Time to leave the best friend behind! You may receive an occasional text or a missed call on top of a certain hill or a special ‘internet corner’ but the lack of signal really makes the stay feel like a proper holiday-mentally and physically.

Have you seen people gaze intensely at their phone screens and then a few seconds later, walk into a lamp or a street post?!ย

Well I have, and I have done it myself! That’s how busy my life can get. Sometimes I don’t have those 10 minutes to spare, instead I try to multi-task and then hit the post and make myself look like a total idiot.ย  The good thing about an incident like that is that it really wakes you up!

Have you sat down on a bus or train and just observed people?! How many of them were doing the same thing?! The answers is: not many. People’s bodies are out on streets but their mind is wandering around social media platforms. We are here, but not really!ย

I don’t want to come across as evil but I hope that you too, will walk into that post. ๐Ÿ˜€ Especially if you are like me, always on the phone texting and uploading social media content.

It’s a good wake-up call! Lift your head up, give that neck a good stretch and look around you! Are the daffodils still there or did you miss them this year?! Are the trees greener than last week?!

I dare you to have a phone free day! You will notice the difference in your mood and productivity! Yes, if you are addicted to it, it may be a little ‘painful’ for the first couple of hours, but the pain will subside ๐Ÿ˜€ .

These 3 days in the Cotswolds felt like an entire week (in a good way). The days felt a lot longer, I was enjoying the nature, laughed a lot and spent more time away from my phone and laptop than I have for a long time.

During the walk we managed to find some beautiful ‘pussy willows’ (interesting name, I know ๐Ÿ˜€ย  )ย  and put them in a vase to create some real Easter vibes!

I am back in London now but already dreaming of my next little getaway in those pink Wellington boots! ๐Ÿ™‚

To sum my story up- book yourself a countryside holiday, leave your phone behind, wear comfortable clothing that can get muddy , comfortable footwear and get out there in the woods and enjoy the nature! ๐Ÿ™‚

My tips for waking up with a 6-pack!

So many people have come to me for advice on how to loose weight and tone up… In most cases there is always that one specific stubborn area which is causing the most trouble and headache for the help seekers (bellybutton, hips, bingo wings…).

Well, you’re in luck because I’m going to reveal all my top ‘secrets’ in this post!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

PS! Sorry to spoil your hopes but the truth is- fat burning is not a war game where you just lock your target, shoot and voila, fat is burning. In fact, quite often we start loosing fat from places where we really don’t have that much to give away in the first place – in my case- boobs!ย

Before I start listing my tips I’d like to show you the journey that my own physique has gone through:

1- The skinny cardio bunny… (with horrible posture…and tan line ๐Ÿ˜€ !)

2. The chubby ”I like to party every weekend” look… (I look happy, so I do understand you party people ๐Ÿ˜€ )

3. Lean and toned stage look for a fitness competition… (Looking pretty happy here too though ๐Ÿ˜› )

4. Today’s toned athletic look… (looking very content in this photo! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

As you can see, I have had my highs and lows before reaching the steady point where I am at right now.ย  I’m not extremely lean, but still leanish and toned. After having tried out many different training and dietary approaches, I can assure you that what you eat and drink is what you become!

I’m not going to lie, to get to the point where I’m at, you’ll need to make sacrifices. Spend about 3-6 sweaty and tiring months on sculpting your body and then enjoy the results and continue to exercise for maintenance and fun.

Anyway, enough of this small talk, here are my tips – starting with the more general ones:

  1. Change your eating habits! If you are used to ordering pizza or Chinese on most nights- stop doing that!ย If it hasn’t helped you reach your goals until this day, why would it work over the next few weeks?! Even if you hire a personal trainer-solely paying out big bucks to the trainer does not shift your body fat if you continue to feed your body with food that lacks nutrients ! And again, I am talking from my own experience- I’ve had a few months in which I trained hard but then ruined my hard work with unhealthy food and drink choices and ended up with no results! May have gained some strength if anything…
  2. Surround yourself with like-minded people! Spend time with friends that encourage and motivate you on your journey. If they only want to spend time with you over a glass of wine or other alcoholic drinks and junk food, then maybe it’s time for you to let them find other social-buddies. You need someone who’d invite you to have a fun workout together and check out healthy restaurants or cook your own healthy meals!
  3. Write down your goals (small and big) and keep them in a visible place! Have your goals sit in front of your eyes every day. This keeps the motivation levels up and you are more likely to achieve them. Do make sure to add some small, more attainable goals, because we all know how much satisfaction it brings to be able to tick off some tasks from a long to-do list! ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Watch and read motivational videos and blogs!ย If seeing someone smashing their workouts and looking amazing does not motivate you, then I’m not sure what will… ๐Ÿ˜€ . I always ‘steal’ or ‘borrow’ my motivation from other people! Yes, on most days, I am highly motivated myself but there are always some days in which the energy levels just aren’t there!

Okay but now to the main bit- so how to wake up with a 6 pack? ๐Ÿ˜›ย

If you haven’t tasted any vegetables in a while nor moved much, don’t expect to see your 6-pack tomorrow morning. As I told you earlier, simply by reading through some helpful information or paying your personal trainer DOES NOT make you wake up with lean, toned physique!

What WILL make you wake up with a dream body is a great willpower, long-term commitment, dedication, hard work, persistence, healthy diet, balanced choices… It may sound too much at first but let’s break this into bits and once you start ticking these off one by one, I promise you, your goals are one step closer to you and the process is actually very enjoyable:

  1. Drink lots of water!ย Drink more water! Oh did I already mention WATER!!!ย Waterย is anย importantย part of all body functions and processes, including digestion and elimination. When you’re on aย diet,ย waterย also acts as a weight-loss aid because it can help you eat less. I start my day with a glass of water and drink around 3 liters of water a day!
  2. Don’t starve yourself, eat nutritious food to fuel your body!ย Whyย doesย a very low calorie intake slow down weight loss? Quite simply, your body goes into ‘starvation mode‘. This mechanism, which is thought to have evolved as a defence againstย starvation,ย meansย the body becomes super efficient at making the most of the calories itย doesย get from food and drink. Choose foods that are low in calories, taste good and fill you up for a long time!
  3. Have 4-6 small meals a day! Eat in every 3 hours to keep your metabolism going and to avoid getting crazy cravings! if you don’t feel like you’re ‘starving’ , it’s more likely that you’ll make healthier choices when shopping for your meals. ๐Ÿ™‚ This should also prevent you from falling into the downward spiral ofย  binge eating.
  4. Add some protein to each meal- avoid eating only huge amounts of carbs- pasta, bread, potatoes…! I plan my platefuls by thinking which protein sources am I going to use (eggs, chicken, fish etc) and then add all the rest (pasta, sweet potato, veggies…). You’ll definitely need to eat carbs too, so don’t leave these out ๐Ÿ™‚ !
  5. Turn your diet into a fun game! Be flexible, use a great variety of different foods. Create your own healthy 3 course menu! Make your own healthy puddings! Mix different flavors, taste them and have fun in the process of making them ๐Ÿ™‚ My experience has shown that not all flavors work well together, but at least I’ve tried! ๐Ÿ˜€ There are a great number of ideas available in cook books and online so there should be no excuses!
  6. Allow yourself some treats, live a ‘normal’ life! Yes, I am promoting healthy food and healthy lifestyle, but I would also suggest to go for an occasional pizza or burger! Why? This keeps you sane and makes you feel like a normal person with no dietary restrictions. Dieting can be fun! Be good 90% of the time to allow 10% of naughtiness in your life! ๐Ÿ˜› We only live once, so you might as well take the most out of it!
  7. STAY ACTIVE!!! This here is the key to everything! Yes, you can loose weight by following a diet plan and not working out but I personally would much rather eat loads and compensate that by having a fun workout! I can honestly say that I too eat those naughty foods quite often (once or twice a week) but due to my active lifestyle, these calories will be used up in no time and I’m still waking up looking healthy and lean and happy because I got to have some real flour pancakes or a juicy burger! ๐Ÿ™‚
  8. Don’t be afraid to lift heavy weights!!! Remember, the more muscle, the more calories you burn and the more you can eat! Sounds like heaven to me ๐Ÿ˜€ ! Also, switch you long and boring cardio with a quick HIIT session! It’s painful but very effective and it’ll be over before your brain realizes what you have forced it into! ๐Ÿ˜€
  9. Get enough sleep!!!ย ย I was convinced that I had insomnia at some point last year and due to that my eating times were all messed up and I was craving for carbs all the time… Also, not getting enough sleep will have it’s impact on your mood, so it’s best to go to bed early and wake up looking and feeling like a princess! ๐Ÿ™‚
  10. Stop looking for magic pills and diets!!! Just stick with the basics- good old clean eating and weightlifting/HIIT/Cardio combo and you’ll be fine! Plus you can use that magic pill money on a nice relaxing holiday :)!

Are you thinking ”…..borning, I have heard all of this before”?ย

Well it’s because that REALLY IS all you need to do! It’s quite simple! The question is how much you really want to make the change happen?! Are you willing to give up those Saturday night parties?! Do you have enough determination and willpower to stick to your diet and training plan for more than a month?!

Ask yourself these questions and if the answer is YES, go and smash your goals! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have finally managed to set up my blog page! YAY!!!

It has only taken me about 6 months in total, not bad right?! (I hope you have a good sarcasm detector because I’m from Estonia ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I signed up about three weeks ago, paid the annual premium account membership fee and everything and then spent another three weeks on choosing the perfect theme and text font which are nowย  looking pretty much the same as they did on my initial WordPress sample page.ย  Oh well, at least I tried :)!

Anyway, this will be the place where I’ll be sharing my honest opinions, thoughts, experiences about things that matter to me…or annoy me!

Because I work as a personal trainer and my biggest passion is travelling, most of my posts are going to be either about health and fitness or about me discovering the world! PS my trips are never dull or boring, I have always come across to the craziest adventures and people. Might do a post about some of my previous experiences too to show you what I mean by crazy!

On a different note, I would never have thought that writing a blog can be that tough.

If you know me in person, you would also know how much and how fast I can talk- could probably recite a novel in 60-seconds. But on here, things are different, I have to choose what I spend my words on in order to avoid coming across as the most boring blogger on this planet.

Even now as I’m trying to complete the easiest task – create a ‘welcome post’- ย I start writing a sentence and then delete it for numerous of times before I’m happy with what my mind’s trying to say. The delete button has already faded in colour. Hopefully I will get better at expressing myself through words and will offer you some quality content.

As I mentioned earlier, I come from a small country, called Estonia, which means some of my posts may be written in Estonian. I tried to add Google translate widget to make my life easier and hoped that it would translate all my posts but all it does is giving the Estonian readers a good laugh- ย either my English is rubbish or the app isn’t quite up to date๐Ÿ™ˆ.

Please feel free to comment your thoughts on my first ever blog post! Do you think there’s hope for me?! ๐Ÿ˜
